Wheeler Peak in Great Basin National Park is the second highest peak in Nevada standing at 13,065'. In the summer it is a fairly standard, simple route. In early May, it will still be covered in snow. Skill with snowshoes, and microspikes is a must. Crampons and ice axe skills preferred.
I am looking for 1-3 people who would like to carpool with me down to Baker, NV (about 2hrs from Salt Lake) Friday afternoon, and return either Saturday night or Sunday morning.
The length of the hike really depends on snow conditions. If the road is still closed, we will have to hike from Upper Lehman Creek, camp, and continue onward the next day. (which means coming home Sunday). If we luck out and the road is open, and we can go from the trailhead, we will be done early enough to return Saturday night!
Let me know if you are interested for more info!
