I'm starting out in Auckland from 27-29 June, and have hired a car for 29-30 June and booked the accommodation that's part of the Muangatautari Visitor Centre for the night of 29/30th.

I'm really up for sharing the cost of a night time tour with 1-3 other people - NZ$352 per group.  Night time is when the Kiwis are active, among other wildlife.  And even if that's not for you, happy to share the journey and have a wander on the 29th daytime.

On the 30th, I leave around 9.30, driving to Wellington.
