I’m based in the San Francisco Bay Area and planning a 10-15 day self-drive road trip to Austria and Southern Germany this June. I’ve done quite a bit of solo travel and local backpacking in the Sierra, and now I’m looking for 1 or 2 like-minded travel companions to share this adventure with.
🗺️ The Route (Open-jaw):
Fly into Vienna → Train to Hallstatt (2 nights) → Salzburg (pick up rental car) → German Alps: Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Linderhof Palace, Neuschwanstein Castle → Fly out from Munich
📅 Duration:
10-15 days / Mid-to-late June (dates flexible)
🚗 Why self-drive?
Max flexibility, scenic alpine roads, and access to places off the train route. I’ll be handling the car rental (auto transmission, already researched), and we can split fuel/tolls/parking.
🎒 Travel Style:
· Mix of culture + nature: imperial cities, alpine lakes, castles, and easy/moderate day hikes
· Comfortable with budget-to-midrange accommodations (hostels, guesthouses, Airbnbs with parking)
· Not a party trip—more about good conversations, photography, local food, and enjoying the views
· Open to both detailed planning and spontaneous detours
🧑🤝🧑 Ideal co-traveler:
· Positive, flexible, and respectful of shared space & solo time
· Also flying from SF / Bay Area (not required but great for meetups!)
· Comfortable driving? (Not required—I’ll drive, but company is always nice!)
✅ Let’s connect:
If this sounds like your kind of trip, please DM me! We can grab coffee in SF, do a video call, or go for a quick local hike to see if we’re a good match.
Happy to share my detailed itinerary, packing list, and rough budget estimate.
Cheers!
