I’ll be solo traveling in Japan for a month (my 4th time!) and thought it would be fun to connect with other travelers who enjoy exploring beyond the typical tourist checklist. The previous trips were with my wife and kid, which was great but this time it’s just me, so I finally have a bit more flexibility.
So far, the only thing set in stone is Tokyo from May 21–28. After that, I’ll be trying to explore more of the countryside and smaller towns rather than sticking mainly to big cities like Tokyo, Osaka, or Sapporo.
I’m especially into food, izakayas, small bars, and wandering around lesser-known neighborhoods rather than major landmarks.
I’m a Kodoku no Gurume fan, so I enjoy checking out those smaller food places with character even though they can definitely be hit or miss. Last time, traveling with a small kid meant some of the cozier izakayas weren’t really an option, so this trip I’m looking forward to exploring that side a bit more.
Full transparency: I’m in my 40s and not really into karaoke or clubs. I speak a bit of broken Japanese, it might come in handy (or not). And honestly, while I enjoy solo travel, eating and drinking alone can sometimes feel a bit awkward or boring, especially in smaller places.
No financial expectations at all , everyone covers their own expenses. Just looking for relaxed company to share good food, drinks, and interesting spots around the city.
