Travel companion wanted — New England & Nova Scotia road trip, late September/October

Hi! I’m Doug, 65, retired and living in Dana Point, California. I’m planning a camper-van road trip of roughly four weeks starting around the end of September, heading across the country to New England and then up into Atlantic Canada.

The part I’m especially excited about is exploring New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine during the fall, then continuing through New Brunswick and into Nova Scotia. I enjoy beautiful scenery, hiking, the outdoors, interesting little towns, good food and discovering places along the way rather than racing from destination to destination.

I have my own camper van. It’s comfortable and self-contained but fairly basic — definitely camping rather than luxury RVing! I recently spent more than a month traveling through the Pacific Northwest and Canadian Rockies and loved the adventure, but I realized that a long trip is simply more enjoyable when you have someone along to share the experiences, conversations and laughs.

I’d love to meet an active, adventurous and easygoing woman, roughly 50–65, who has the flexibility and desire to do something like this. I’m looking primarily for a travel companion and friendship, not a romantic relationship or hookup. Good chemistry as traveling friends, a sense of humor, flexibility and enjoying the outdoors matter much more to me than anything else.

You certainly wouldn't have to commit to the entire four weeks. If joining for a week or two somewhere along the route works better, I'm very open to that as well.

Because sharing a camper van is a pretty big leap with someone you don't know, I'd want us both to feel completely comfortable first. If you're in Southern California, we could meet for coffee, take a hike or two, and perhaps do a short day or weekend trip before deciding whether traveling together makes sense.

I'm healthy and active, enjoy surfing and paddleboarding as well as hiking and camping, and I'm at a stage of life where I finally have the freedom to explore without having to rush home for work.
