I'd organize this as a one-way journey through southern Mexico, the Caribbean coast, Belize and Guatemala, finishing with a full week at beautiful Lake Atitlán.
The idea is to combine Mayan history, colonial cities, beaches, local culture, markets and nature, without spending too much time moving from one destination to another.
Week 1
Mexico City & Oaxaca
Mexico City for museums, Teotihuacán and historic neighborhoods, then Oaxaca for Zapotec ruins, food, mezcal and indigenous culture.
Week 2
Playa del Carmen & Isla Holbox
Fly to Cancún, then use ADO buses and ferries. Visit cenotes, Caribbean beaches and the laid-back island of Holbox.
Week 3
Tulum, Bacalar & Belize
Travel south via Tulum and Bacalar into Belize, visiting Caye Caulker and Belize's Caribbean coast.
Week 4
Belize & Tikal, Guatemala
Visit San Ignacio, Maya archaeological sites and jungle landscapes before crossing into Guatemala to explore Tikal and Flores.
Week 5
Antigua Guatemala & highlands
Travel to Antigua for Spanish colonial architecture, volcano views, local coffee culture and optional hiking.
Week 6
Lake Atitlán
Spend the final week exploring lakeside villages, Mayan communities, markets and hiking trails, with time to relax.
Route overview, not a continuous driving route. Some sections require flights, ferries or connecting shuttles.
Monte Albán — Mexico
Ancient Zapotec ceremonial center overlooking Oaxaca. Combine it with Oaxaca's traditional markets, textiles and regional cuisine.
Tikal — Guatemala
One of the most impressive Maya archaeological sites in Central America, with towering temples surrounded by jungle.
Antigua Guatemala
Colonial streets, historic churches, coffee plantations and volcanoes. A great place for walking and Spanish classes.
Chichicastenango Market
A colorful traditional highland market, best visited on Thursday or Sunday, with Maya textiles, handicrafts and local traditions.
I'd spend four nights in San Pedro La Laguna or San Juan La Laguna and three nights in Santa Cruz La Laguna or Panajachel.
Use the public boats to explore different villages, visit Maya weaving cooperatives, take a cooking or Spanish lesson, hike to Indian Nose for sunrise and spend a couple of days relaxing by the lake.
This is a much nicer finish than rushing between additional cities.

ADO serves the main Mexican corridors, and direct Oaxaca–Cancún flights are currently listed. Cross-border Belize services are less predictable, so I would verify that leg shortly before travel.

My preference would be private rooms in small guesthouses rather than dormitories. You still get the backpacking experience and opportunities to meet people, but with more comfort and privacy.
