I just returned from an amazing 4-day whale-watching trip along the Bay of Fundy, and I had to share! From spotting humpbacks to exploring charming islands, this trip was unforgettable. Here’s how my adventure went.
Day 1: Arrival & Island Exploration
I arrived in St. Andrews in the morning and checked into a cozy waterfront lodge. After settling in, I took a walk around the town—it’s full of historic charm and cute little shops. In the afternoon, I joined a short introductory tour of the West Isles, getting a taste of the islands’ stunning coastline and learning a bit about the local wildlife from the guide. Dinner at a seaside restaurant with fresh seafood set the perfect start to the trip.
Day 2: Full-Day Whale Watching Tour
Today was the highlight! I boarded a small 42-foot Wedgeport lobster boat for a full-day tour. Our crew was incredible, sharing stories about the whales, seals, porpoises, and seabirds we saw along the way. The Bay of Fundy did not disappoint—humpback whales breached right near the boat! We also spotted a few minke whales and a playful pod of porpoises. I made sure my camera was ready, but honestly, seeing them in person was even better than photos.
Day 3: Kayaking & Coastal Exploration
After yesterday’s adventure, I wanted to get closer to the water in a different way. I rented a kayak and paddled around the sheltered coves of the West Isles. The views of the cliffs, lighthouses, and occasional seals popping up were breathtaking. In the afternoon, I visited a local wildlife center and learned more about conservation efforts for whales in the Bay of Fundy. The evening was spent relaxing at my lodge, enjoying the sunset over the water.
Day 4: Morning Cruise & Departure
On my last morning, I went on a short sunrise whale-watching cruise. It was peaceful, and I spotted a few humpbacks feeding near the surface—it felt like the perfect farewell from the Bay. After the cruise, I grabbed breakfast at a local café, packed up, and drove back home, already planning my next trip.
