Starting at Lake Itaska MN (the source of the Mississippi River), follow state highways and back roads (https://experiencemississippiriver.com/the-great-river-road-the-best-drive-in-america/) south until we run out of road (about 90 miles south of New Orleans LA). We'll mostly use Airbnb rooms and low expense/free lodging as much as possible. Camping a possibility, at least part of the time. I have a pickup truck and can carry camping gear. Max of four people total.
I hope to compare the river and river towns/cities with the descriptions found in Mark Twain's 1880 book, Life on the Mississippi. This will mean visiting local historical societies along the way and chatting people up. All ages and genders welcome, but no smokers, please. No drug use on the trip. No alcohol in the vehicle. I have a vehicle; we'll share tolls, parking, and gas expenses.
The trip will take about two weeks. People are welcome to do part of the trip.
